Chile has 600 volcanoes because of its geographical location along the Nazcar plate/South American plate subduction ("Subduction is a geological process that takes place at convergent boundaries of tectonic plates where one plate moves under another and is forced or sinks due to gravity into the mantle. Regions where this process occurs are known as subduction zones.")
Coming back full circle to round off our unit on South America we used plasticine to learn about mountain range formation, earthquakes and continental plates.
And we completed our unit with the Spanish Invasion of Peru in 1516.
We found this incredible information about the gold and silver the Spanish plundered from the Incan Empire on coins auctioned. I've copied and pasted it because it's such a fascinating read.
So where is the Inca Gold Jewelry today?
Is there still Incas Gold in Peru?
Is there still silver and weapons in Peru?

Coin Mints in the New World
With these thoughts in mind we made Incan jewellery and coins, and a shipwreck display for it all.
These are our own shipwreck coins which we have found at the beach.
Looking at coin replicas from different eras.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is it! We are done for the summer! School's out for these two! I love you both. Thank you for a smashing year, my babies.
