Autumn

A thematic unit on Autumn and all its loveliness

Cloud dough with all the senses

An Autumn hunt to find bits for our cloud dough recipe

Art in imaginary Autumn play

Hibernation play

Some snuggly Autumn reading books, including our favourite Cosy Book.

A pumpkin guesstimation investigation

Do pumpkins float or sink?

They float! We talked about density and molecules.

Do they have more or less than 100 seeds?

Counting in 10s - this pumpkin had more than 100 seeds!

Scoopy-slimey

Pumpkin pie

Some seeds for roasting...

And some for planting

While the pumpkin pie baked, Sunbaby did some lovely reading.

The seeds roasted beautifully

And Sunbaby made a smashing pie!

Hilarity watching a pumpkin boat race

Sunbaby role-played as a bear, and we went to the woods to identify the trees growing there.
Bark rubbing.

We found oak, ash, apple and silver birch trees.

Freedom

We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen is one of our absolute favourites!

Making hedgehogs

A bat trail to an Autumn bath

Baking with this big brother

A morning about snowy owls, tawny owls and eagle owls.

Woodland animals

Firework sentences and handwriting practise.

Firework painting

Firework poetry

And this one.

Harvesting sunflower seeds from the sunflowers Sunbaby planted in Spring.

Sunflower art

Reading about European birds

Making pumpkin pom poms

For the Pumpkin Patch

Wax crayons for fireworks and a watercolour sky. Oil and water do not mix, so Sunbaby was able to paint the sky by just painting over her crayon work. Lovely!

Onomatopoeic firework words and learning how an exclamation mark can change the delivery of a sentence.

Spelling and writing

Making a mushroom

A mushroom house for hedghogs

Autumn cutting and lots of discussions about native birds

We made the pumpkin pom poms into a hedgehog.

The mushroom dried, ready for glittery spots. Cool fungi.

A bird feeder out of a large pine cone, peanut butter and lots of different seeds

Cloves to make the house smell lovely

And a lovely smell recipe for the hob: lemons, oranges, cinnamon and cloves

Another pumpkin for sharpie drawing

Sunbaby was feeling a little under the weather today, but that didn't stop her from making...

.. Autumn gonk pictures with oil pastels and chalk pastels

A bat wreath

And the best, most glittery binoculars for hiding in a bird hide.

We found the cat bird watching too!
