Teeny Tiny Frogs, The Magna Carta and Garden Camping

We went for a family walk and discovered lots of teeny tiny frogs.  Papa, being French, suggested we eat the teeny tiny frogs, but the rest of us, being only half French (or Mummy - English), decided to collect the teeny tiny frogs in a bucket and then release them on our way home.

It's 800 years since the Magna Carta.  We went to see one of the original copies (only four remaining) at St. Alban's Cathedral where it is being exhibited for the whole of August.  It was fascinating!

For the past month we have been drying the rosemary and spearmint we have grown in our garden.  Panda Girl then crushed them with a mortar and pestlel and we used the rosemary in our home-made meatballs.

Cutting roses for a vase.

I made a pet shop for the kiddies to role play with in the morning...

....complete with pet dragon.  Only £5.  Bargain.

We promised the kiddies we'd go camping with friends this summer but our planned date fell through due to booked-up campsites, bad weather and illness.  So we used some free sunny days this week to camp in our garden.

Looking at constellations.

Watching for shooting stars.

Hot chocolate, ready for night number two in the tent.  I should mention here that all the kiddies and Papa are sleeping in the tent, in the dark right now, as I type.  And I am snuggled up, on the lap-top, in my cosy, wonderful duvet-ed bed.  :)

We have picked blackberries like they are going out of fashion.  The field next door is bursting with them.  We are so blessed.

Enjoying our Summer Break

Holiday Club.  Free Holiday Club.  That's all I have to say about last week! :)

The week before:
Our favourite nature experts (our lovely ex neighbours) came to visit and the children chatted with them about moths, butterflies, nests and favourite Roman emperors...

...and they helped us identify some nests we have on our nature table.

The children's cute cousins came to visit for a few days.  They played pirates, climbed trees, played in the pool, went to sleep super late, ...

... had a few tea parties...

...and used the garden as a huge craft table :)

The cousins went home and we built a den in the woods with bestest Papa who knows all you need to know about surviving in the wild - although we did eat biscuits and we did go home for dinner and bed.  Hee hee!

Waiting for Papa's train.

Helping Mummy

The kiddies had a great opportunity to go horse riding at a nearby livery yard.
