Summer 2012 - it rained! A lot! We more or less had 3 months of rain. I was daunted by the prospect of a summer holidays full of rain and with no termly activities to break up our days. I decided, therefore, to embrace it! I made this display and we got outside as much as we could, rain or shine! OH - and we also hand-reared a duckling. An awesome project for the children :)

The Olympic Games - London 2012
We've had smashing fun with this project! All four children have really got into the spirit of it. We've watched some inspiring Olympic video clips, practised long-jump in the garden, learnt the story of the Olympics, the mottos and slogans, the seven Olympic values, designed our own torches and medals etc. Here's a little more:
Our Olympic books
The children each designed their own country/island from which heralded their own Olympian. They had to decide it's size in km, in which Ocean it was found, its population, interesting features (e.g. volcanoes, nature reserves etc), longest river, capital city, main export, flag design and then create their Olympian.
The Seven Olympic Values. They each chose a value and designed a poster for the London 2012 Olympics. I also used liquid eye-liner to 'tattoo' a value on their arm so they could be reminded of it throughout the day.
Olympic Health Food Shop
And then we braved the rain to watch the Olympic Torch arrive and light the Olympic Cauldron in our Local Town.
Holding the Torch!
A selection of Olympic worksheets the children have been busy completing.
And then we went to Wembley to watch Olympic Football and to the Olympic Park to watch Paralympic Athletics. WHAT a summer :)
And then we went to Wembley!
